Frequently Asked Questions About Elements

Browse our frequently asked questions and answers, or contact one of our specialists, who are always here to help you.

A privacy screen is any type of barrier that limits visibility into a private area. In the context of railings, this usually involves frosted glass, tinted glass, or solid slats that are tall enough to conceal the people inside.

Not necessarily, but they are often combined. A privacy screen is designed to block the view, while a windscreen is designed to block drafts. However, a tall opal glass railing addresses both needs at the same time in a very effective way.

For best results, the windbreak should be placed in the direction of the prevailing wind. Often, it’s enough to shield the side or corner where the wind most often comes from to create a comfortable environment on your entire patio with a railing.

Keep in mind that the wind can often “swirl” around corners, so an L-shaped layout is usually best.

Aluminum is the perfect choice if you want a low-maintenance railing at a great price. It’s easier to work with during installation than stainless steel, but offers the same stability and safety.

In addition, it's often less expensive than stainless steel options, while still providing a surface that doesn't require polishing to stay looking good year after year.

Yes, a glass windbreak can certainly be taller than a standard railing, but there are important factors to consider. Technically speaking, it is possible to customize the height to maximize the shelter effect. However, it’s important to remember that tall glass sections on a balcony may require a building permit since they affect the appearance of the facade, and they also place higher demands on the stability of the mounting due to increased wind pressure.

The price is primarily determined by the railing’s total length, the type of glass (such as tempered laminated glass), and whether you choose fixed or adjustable modules. The choice of material for the posts (aluminum or stainless steel) and any powder coating also affect the final price.

If you're looking for a railing that's essentially maintenance-free, aluminum is the best choice. Aluminum doesn't rust, and its powder-coated surface only requires a quick wipe-down when needed. A postless glass railing is also very easy to maintain, especially if the glass has a nano-coating to repel dirt.

Yes, wind loads on a rooftop terrace are significantly higher than at ground level, which requires extra-strong structures and fastenings. In addition, there are often strict regulations regarding railing height (at least 1100 mm) and child safety.

Always check local building codes, as tall windbreaks on roofs often require a building permit.

Elements is our line of decorative privacy screens that effectively combine privacy with modern design. The system is designed to create separate zones on your patio without completely blocking out the light. By choosing from a variety of laser-cut patterns, you can customize the level of privacy to suit your specific needs.

Unlike traditional wooden privacy screens, Elements is made entirely of aluminum. This means you get a completely maintenance-free product that doesn’t need to be painted or oiled, whether it’s used as a windbreak or a room divider.

Where Elements Works Especially Well

Thanks to its flexible design, Elements is a popular choice for:

  • Privacy screens for the patio —create a private oasis in your dining area or lounge.
  • Pool windbreak – provides effective protection against drafts.
  • Outdoor room dividers – use them to separate different areas in the garden or on the balcony.
  • Combine with glass railings —seamlessly integrate the panels with our glass railing systems to break up long sections.

Quality & Safety

Certified Manufacturing

Elements are manufactured at our facility in Ängelholm. By handling both design and production in-house, we ensure that every partition wall is of high quality and meets the safety requirements for load-bearing aluminum building products. Each order is customized according to your specifications and comes with a declaration of performance.

The manufacturing process itself is certified in accordance with EN 1090-1 and complies with applicable Eurocodes for load-bearing capacity and performance. Production is continuously monitored by RISE (Research Institutes of Sweden), which is responsible for external verification of traceability, quality, and the manufacturing process.

To ensure a long service life in outdoor environments, Elements has been tested according to corrosion class C5, which means it can withstand both salt spray and high humidity without rusting.

Technical Information

Dimensions, Specifications, and Documentation

Here you'll find technical information about Elements —our decorative aluminum partition walls.

We have compiled data on dimensions, mounting methods, and materials to help you with your planning and ensure proper installation.

Technical Details

Load-tested posts
The posts have been tested with top and exterior fastenings on wooden substrates and can withstand a load of 0.5–1.0 kN/m.

Square 50×50 mm
Square aluminum posts and crossbars measuring 50×50 mm.

Surface coating: 20 µm
Our aluminum profiles are anodized. This is the same principle used on the mast of a sailboat, which is resistant to wind and weather.

Color Options
The posts are available in the standard colors natural (aluminum), white, black, textured gray, and seven additional shades of gray.

Sheet thickness: 2.5 mm

Square 50×50 mm
Square aluminum posts and crossbars measuring 50×50 mm.

Surface coating: 20 µm
Our aluminum profiles are anodized. This is the same principle used on the mast of a sailboat, which is resistant to wind and weather.

Wooden Crossbeam Molded crossbeam in untreated light oak or jatoba (a hardwood with properties and an appearance similar to teak).

Angles
If there are any corners on the railing, cut the wooden crossbar to size yourself. This ensures a precise fit. Both wood and aluminum can be cut with a standard miter saw. If you choose an aluminum crossbar and the corner is 90 degrees, no cutting is required.

8.76 mm laminated glass
Two 4-millimeter glass panes with a plastic film in between. If the glass were to break, the plastic film would keep the pieces held together as a single unit. Comes with ground and polished edges.

8.76 mm tempered laminated glass
Same construction as our standard laminated glass, but with two tempered glass panes instead. We recommend this glass for environments where the railing may be exposed to repeated external stresses. Comes with ground and polished edges.

Glass Options (Color)
When you design your railing, you also choose the type of glass you want. You can choose between clear glass or tinted slats in gray or opal (tinted or frosted film between the glass panels).

Zinc or Stainless Steel Clamps
You can choose between zinc clamps (which are painted the same color as the railing) or acid-resistant stainless steel clamps (AISI 316).

Square or Rounded
When designing your railing, you can choose whether you want square or rounded clamps.

Color
The clamps are supplied in the same color as the rest of the railing.

Bracket
The sheet metal is secured with an aluminum bracket.

Symmetrical Sections
When you enter your measurements in our configurator, you always enter the edge measurements at the location where you want the railing installed. Our configurator then makes the necessary adjustments. We then customize the section dimensions for your railing so that each section on each side is the same length. In other words, we adapt the railing to your measurements—not the other way around.

Selectable railing height
In the configurator, you can select the height of your railing, ranging from 800 to 1100 mm, measured from the floor to the top of the railing. According to Boverket standards, railings must be 1100 mm high in areas where the risk of a fall exceeds 3 meters.

Customized to the Millimeter When you provide your measurements, we ask that you be precise to the millimeter. We craft your railing to the millimeter so that it fits perfectly in the spot where you want to install it.

Customization for Sloped Ceilings
You can choose to customize your railing to accommodate a sloped ceiling at the beginning or end. We will then manufacture a glass panel with a cut-off corner according to your measurements.

Complete Kits Our shipment includes everything you need for assembly. In addition to posts, glass, and crossbars, it also includes all screws, drill bits, and sockets, as well as any special tools. If you have a screwdriver, a wrench, a folding rule, and a level, you really don’t need anything else.

Assembly Videos and Instructions
The videos show various steps to help you with your assembly. Our assembly tips and videos are customized for each order. In other words, these are not general descriptions but are tailored specifically to your order.

Mounting on top of
The base is secured to the floor with 4 screws.

External Mounting
The post is secured with two screws on the side, directly against the mounting surface.

Selectable Mounting Heights
If you choose surface mounting, you also have the option to select the mounting height. You can have the post extend downward by 350 mm, 250 mm, 195 mm, or 145 mm. If possible, a larger dimension is preferable. The mounting height may affect the number of sections per side.

Wood Screw If you choose to mount on a wooden surface, screws for this purpose are included. The screw is made of hardened steel and, for outdoor use, is also surface-treated with Corrseal—Corrosion Class C4. The screw features a milled groove along the shank and one at the tip. This ensures very low screw-in torque in harder wood and minimizes cracking.

Concrete Mounting Screw If you choose to mount the product on a concrete surface, screws for this purpose are included. The screw is made of hardened steel and, for outdoor use, is also surface-treated with Corrseal—Corrosivity Class C4. Approved for use in cracked concrete, uncracked concrete, and hollow-core slabs. Also suitable for solid brick, hollow brick, solid Mexi brick, and natural stone.

Top rail with or without wall mounting
If the railing is mounted on a wall, you can also choose to mount the top rail to the wall. This can result in a slightly more stable structure.

Aluminum Components
Aluminum posts and other components require minimal maintenance. If stains appear, a mild detergent, water, and a soft cloth are usually sufficient. Do not use products with abrasive properties, acids, or alkaline agents.

Wooden Handrail Crossbar If the railing is to be installed outdoors, we recommend cleaning the crossbar and then sanding it with fine-grit sandpaper. Treat the crossbar with a wood preservative, such as wood oil or a similar product, depending on the prevailing conditions. For indoor installation, only cleaning and light sanding are required. Treatment with wood oil or a similar product can be applied if desired. All oak contains tannic acid in varying amounts, depending on the wood’s moisture content. This is because tannic acid helps prevent the wood from rotting. When your oak crossbar or handrail is exposed to moisture for the first time in an outdoor environment, tannic acid is released, which can cause discoloration on the surface it rests on. Therefore, we recommend oiling the wood or, alternatively, applying oxalic acid during installation to minimize the release of the acid. Oxalic acid can also be used to clean discoloration from the surface. Consult your paint supplier before using oxalic acid. To keep the wood looking its best, we also recommend oiling it once a year.

Glass
Clean glass surfaces with a window and mirror cleaner and a soft cloth. For stubborn stains, rubbing alcohol may be used. Then clean again with a window and mirror cleaner. Do not use abrasive cleaners on glass.

Metal Sheet This metal sheet requires minimal maintenance. If stains appear, a mild detergent, water, and a soft cloth are usually sufficient. Do not use products with abrasive properties, acids, or alkaline agents.

When you’re assembling your railing, the usage class (A+, A, B, or C) provides an indication of where the railing is suitable for use. The classes are based on current building codes and our own product tests, and take into account the choices you’ve made regarding railing height, section width, details, and so on. You can think of the class as a recommendation to help you make the right choice!

Class A+
An A+-rated railing meets the Swedish National Board of Housing, Building and Planning’s requirements for railings where the fall height exceeds 3 meters from floor level to ground level, and is therefore suitable for use in all types of residential environments as well as public spaces such as offices, restaurants, and stores. Our A+-rated railings can withstand a minimum linear load of 1 kN/m, and where the railing includes glass, it is safety glass designed to prevent injury in the event of an impact.

Class A
A Class A railing meets the Swedish National Board of Housing, Building and Planning’s requirements for railings where the fall height exceeds 3 meters from floor level to ground level, and is therefore suitable for use in all types of residential environments. Our Class A railings can withstand a minimum linear load of 0.5 kN/m, and where the railing includes glass, it is safety glass designed to prevent injury in the event of an impact.

Class B
Class B railings are suitable for use in environments where the height difference between the floor and the ground is 0.5–3 meters. Our Class B railings can withstand a minimum linear load of 0.5 kN/m, and when the railing includes glass, it is safety glass designed to prevent personal injury in the event of an impact.

Class C
Class C railings are suitable for use at ground level. If the railing includes glass, it is safety glass designed to prevent injury in the event of an impact. A railing may also be classified as Class C if Balustrade Store , in consultation with you as the customer, makes a modification to the railing that deviates from our standard design. In such cases, the Class C classification indicates that this specific configuration has not been tested.
