Installing a handrail is a perfect DIY project. Start by measuring the correct height (about 90 cm from the stair tread or floor), mark where the brackets should go, and drill holes. Depending on the wall material (wood, drywall, or concrete), use the appropriate anchor and screw. Once the brackets are in place, simply screw your handrail into position.

Yes, it's possible, but it requires a little extra thought. Since a handrail has to withstand a heavy load, a drywall anchor alone is rarely enough. We recommend that you try to locate the wood studs behind the drywall and screw the brackets directly into them.
If that is not possible, you should use heavy-duty expanding drywall anchors (such as Molly anchors) to ensure that the handrail is securely fastened.
The standard height for a handrail is 900 mm, measured vertically from the front edge of the stair tread (the junction between the tread and the riser). This height is ergonomically designed to provide a comfortable grip for most adults.
In certain environments—such as those frequented by many children—it may be appropriate to install an additional handrail at a lower height, but 900 mm is the general industry standard.
The price of a handrail is primarily determined by the material (type of wood or metal), the total length of the railing, and the choice of wall brackets. Wood is a living material that requires a little care. Indoors, it’s usually enough to dust it off and, if necessary, wipe it down with a slightly damp cloth. For an outdoor handrail made of, for example, oak or jatoba, it’s important to oil the wood regularly (1–2 times a year) to prevent it from drying out and cracking. By taking care of your wooden handrail, it will retain its beautiful color and finish for a long time.
The choice of material depends entirely on where it will be placed. Indoors, wood (such as oak or ash) is popular for its warm feel and natural aesthetic.

Lira is manufactured at our production facility in Ängelholm. By designing and manufacturing our products in-house, we have full control over quality, strength, and the safety requirements that apply in various environments.
The manufacturing process is certified in accordance with EN 1090-1 and complies with the Eurocodes applicable to load-bearing aluminum construction products. Production is continuously monitored by RISE (Research Institutes of Sweden), which is responsible for external verification of traceability and the manufacturing process.

Stainless Steel Handrail
Stainless steel tubes with a diameter of 42 mm. Supplied in full lengths up to 2.4 meters. Can be ordered in lengths up to 4.4 meters for an additional charge. If your stainless steel handrail is to be installed indoors, we use a stainless steel grade designated AISI 304. If it is to be installed outdoors, however, we use AISI 316, an acid-resistant stainless steel.
Painted Aluminum Handrail
Round painted aluminum handrail with a diameter of 42 mm. Available in full lengths up to 2.4 meters. Can be ordered in lengths up to 4.4 meters for an additional charge.
Ash Handrail
Round ash handrail with a diameter of 43 mm, available either untreated or with a clear gloss finish (gloss level 10). Supplied in full lengths up to 2.4 meters. Can be ordered in lengths up to approximately 3 meters for an additional charge. When ordering handrails longer than 3 meters, the sections are prepared for joining, and of course, everything needed for this is included.
Oak Handrail
Round oak handrail with a diameter of 43 mm, available either untreated or clear-coated with a gloss level of 10. Supplied in full lengths up to 2.4 meters. When ordering handrails longer than 3 meters, the sections are prepared for joining, and of course, everything needed for this is included.
Jatoba Handrail
Round jatoba handrail with a diameter of 43 mm. A hard wood with properties and an appearance similar to teak, available either untreated or finished with a clear varnish in gloss level 10. Supplied in full lengths up to 2.4 meters. Can be ordered in lengths up to approximately 3 meters for an additional charge. When ordering handrails longer than 3 meters, the sections are prepared for joining, and of course, everything needed for this is included.
Black and white wooden handrail
Black- or white-lacquered wooden handrail with a gloss level of 10 and a diameter of 43 mm. Supplied in full lengths up to 2.4 meters. Can be ordered in lengths up to approximately 3 meters for an additional charge. When ordering handrails longer than 3 meters, the sections are prepared for joining, and of course, everything needed for this is included. Our painted wooden handrails are not suitable for outdoor use.
Start and End Fittings for Handrails
We offer three different end fittings for our handrails. For stainless steel and painted aluminum handrails, you can choose from a flat end cap, a round end cap, or a 90-degree end bend—all made of stainless steel. For wooden handrails, you can choose between a natural finish without an end cap, a flat end cap, or a 90-degree end bend made of stainless steel.
Stainless steel round bracket, smooth swivel
Mounted with three visible screws. For indoor use: AISI 304 stainless steel; for outdoor use: AISI 316 stainless steel. Distance from wall to center of handrail: 75 mm.
Stainless steel round bracket, sharp bend
Mounted with a concealed M8 stud. For indoor use: AISI 304 stainless steel; for outdoor use: AISI 316 stainless steel. Distance from wall to center of handrail: 73 mm.
Stainless steel round bracket, flush mounting
Mounted with a concealed M8 screw stud. For indoor use: AISI 304 stainless steel; for outdoor use: AISI 316 stainless steel. Distance from wall to center of handrail: 75 mm

Stainless steel post, round with a diameter of 42 mm and a base for top mounting. The total height of the post and handrail can be adjusted between 855 and 935 mm. For indoor use: AISI 304 stainless steel; for outdoor use: AISI 316 stainless steel.

When you provide your measurements, we ask that you be precise to the millimeter. We craft your railing to the millimeter so that it fits perfectly in the spot where you want to install it.
Wood Screw
If you choose to mount the product on a wooden surface, screws for this purpose are included. The screw is made of hardened steel and, for outdoor use, is also surface-treated with Corrseal—Corrosion Class C4. The screw features a milled groove along the shank and one at the tip. This results in a very low tightening torque when driving the screw into harder wood and minimizes cracking. The screw is 75 mm long for laminated glass and 100 mm long for tempered laminated glass and is driven in with a 13 mm wrench, which is, of course, included with your order. When fastening into materials other than wood or concrete, we recommend contacting your local hardware store.
Everything is included with your order
Our shipment includes everything you need for assembly. In addition to posts, rails, and crossbars, it also includes all screws, drill bits, and sockets, as well as any special tools. If you have a screwdriver, a wrench, a folding rule, and a level, you really don’t need anything else.

Stainless Steel Components
Since stainless steel, despite its name, is not resistant to corrosion, all stainless steel components need to be maintained and cleaned 1–3 times a year. If the railing is installed in a coastal environment, cleaning and treatment may need to be performed more frequently. Clean the surfaces with lukewarm water and a mild detergent using a soft cloth.
Wooden Handrail
If the handrail is to be installed outdoors, we recommend cleaning it and then sanding it with fine-grit sandpaper. Treat the handrail with a wood preservative such as wood oil or a similar product, depending on the prevailing conditions. For indoor installation, only cleaning and light sanding are required. You may treat the handrail with wood oil or a similar product if you wish. All oak contains tannic acid in varying amounts, depending on the wood’s moisture content. This is because tannic acid helps prevent the wood from rotting. When your wooden handrail or railing is first exposed to moisture in an outdoor environment, tannic acid is released, which can cause discoloration on the surface it rests on. Therefore, we recommend oiling the wood or, alternatively, applying oxalic acid during installation to minimize the release of the acid. Oxalic acid can also be used to clean discoloration from the surface. Consult your paint supplier before using oxalic acid. To keep the wood looking its best, we also recommend oiling it once a year.
