Yes. Since the mesh is completely enclosed in the side channels, the awning also serves as an insect screen—mosquitoes and other flying insects cannot get through the mesh. This is a practical bonus on summer evenings when the window is open, for example, at a summer cottage.
It requires absolutely no electrical installation. A built-in solar panel on the cassette powers the motor and charges a rechargeable battery, making the Sensus Solcell the easiest way to install a motorized awning in an existing home—no wiring through the wall and no licensed electrician required. You control it with the included remote control.
Yes, that’s one of the most common uses. Vertical awnings mounted on the outside of the conservatory glass block the heat before it enters the room—significantly more effectively than interior roller shades or pleated blinds. For large glass surfaces, multiple awnings can be installed side by side to cover the entire facade uniformly.
You can install the mechanical components yourself if you’re familiar with drilling and window installation, but we recommend having at least two people, since the cassette weighs approximately 6.5–12 kg per running meter, depending on the size. Sensus Motor and Sensus LED require electrical installation by a licensed electrical contractor, since the motors are powered by AC current. Sensus Solar is completely self-contained and requires no electrical installation at all.
Under normal weather conditions, you do not need to take any action—the structure is designed to withstand the weather loads. In the event of extreme weather, such as storms exceeding the wind classification, or heavy snowfall, we recommend that you retract the awning as a precaution. Keep in mind that an extended awning is never designed to support snow loads.
Since all of our vertical blinds are custom-made, delivery generally takes a few weeks from the time you place your order, depending on the season and your choice of fabric. The exact delivery date will be displayed at checkout once you’ve placed your order, and we’ll send you updates via email throughout the manufacturing and shipping process.
For single-family homes, a building permit is generally not required to install a vertical awning—the installation is considered a surface-mounted addition to the facade. If the facade is a designated historic building or the property is located within a culturally protected area, the municipality may have special regulations—always check with the building board first. For condominiums and rental properties, approval from the board or the landlord is generally required before installation begins.
Sensus Solcell is our freestanding vertical awning and the easiest way to install motorized sun protection in an existing building. The cassette features an integrated solar panel that charges a rechargeable battery during the day—the battery then powers the motor when you raise or lower the awning. No cables need to be run through the facade, no electrician needs to be called in, and no junction box needs to be located near the window. The awning is custom-made to your specifications—up to 500 cm wide and 480 cm high—and is delivered ready for installation. The package includes a cassette with a solar panel and battery, fabric, side channels, mounting brackets, and a remote control. You specify the width, height, profile color, and fabric type in the configurator.
The Sensus Solcell is available in the same four profile colors as the other Sensus models—white, gray, black, and anthracite gray—and features the same carefully curated selection of high-quality fabrics. The solar panel is discreetly integrated into the cassette and is not visible from below, so the awning’s silhouette remains just as clean as on the grid-connected models.

The Sensus Solar Panel is mounted on the exterior of the facade or recessed into the window niche. All brackets, side channels, and fasteners are included, and the exterior assembly is screw-free. Since the awning is completely freestanding and powered by its own solar panel, there are no cables to run to the power grid and no electrician to schedule—installation can often be completed in a single afternoon. The awning weighs approximately 7–12 kg per linear meter depending on the cassette size, so we always recommend at least two people for installation.
The solar panel is pre-installed in the cassette and simply needs to be exposed to daylight to begin charging the battery—no technical installation work is required beyond the mechanical assembly. You can install the awning yourself or use our installation service through our partner, Hemfixarna.
Screws and anchors for installation are included in the package. For certain surfaces, a different mounting method may be required—please contact us if you are unsure. Be sure to install the cassette so that the solar panel has an unobstructed view of the sky for optimal charging, and so that the window can still be opened for ventilation when installed in a niche.
Sensus Solcell is designed in accordance with EN 13561, the European standard for exterior sunshades. What sets it apart from other models is its power system: a solar-powered motor with an accompanying battery, specifically developed for outdoor use, featuring energy storage capable of sustaining operation for extended periods even without direct sunlight. Since no electrical work is required, the risk of installation errors is also reduced—there is no fixed electrical connection that can break. Wind resistance is just as high as in the rest of the series: the zip-screen construction is rated at wind class 8 according to DIN EN 13561, meaning it can withstand wind speeds of 28.5–32.6 m/s—equivalent to a severe storm—without the fabric flapping or being pulled out of the track.*
The aluminum cassette is powder-coated in multiple layers to withstand UV radiation, salty air in coastal locations, and Nordic temperature fluctuations without the paint peeling or the surface rusting. The fabrics are supplied by Sandatex, one of Europe’s leading fabric manufacturers.

The solar panel is maintenance-free and is kept clean by the rain. As a good practice, however, rinse the cassette with lukewarm water and mild soap once per season. The battery is designed for several years of operation and can be replaced separately when the time comes. Nothing needs to be disassembled in the winter—however, check the mounting and screws at the change of seasons, especially in exposed locations.
