At Hotel Riviera’s spa and conference facility, the goal was to create an outdoor environment that exudes exclusivity and tranquility. To preserve the open feel and frame the facility without obstructing the view of the surroundings, Räckesbutiken’s post-free glass railing, Vista, was chosen. This is our most refined design solution, where the glass takes center stage.

Vista – An exclusive feel with a pillar-free glass railing
Our Vista post-free railing is the obvious choice when the architecture calls for an unobstructed view. Unlike traditional alternatives where posts obstruct the line of sight, this post-free glass railing creates a sense of presence without taking up space. At Hotel Riviera, Vista creates a modern and luxurious setting that’s perfectly suited for a conference facility where the guest experience takes center stage.
Using a continuous glass surface maximizes the amount of light entering the spa area, while the railing serves as an effective windbreak. A post-free system like Vista offers many design options, and for this project, a solution was chosen that was mounted on top of the base to create a clear yet discreet boundary with the surrounding area.
Technical Specifications: 12.76 mm safety glass
When building an outdoor railing in a public setting such as a hotel, the requirements for strength and safety are very high. Vista was delivered to Hotel Riviera with a glass thickness of 12.76 mm. This is tempered laminated safety glass, which means it consists of two sheets of tempered glass bonded together with a tough plastic film.
Tempered glass is significantly stronger than regular glass, and the lamination ensures that the glass remains intact as a single unit even if, against all odds, it were to crack. A post-free glass railing like Vista requires this extra thickness and strength to ensure that the railing is stable and safe to lean against, even during large gatherings or under heavy wind loads.
Top Rails and Installation Options for Vista
To give the railing a stylish finish and extra stability, an aluminum top rail was chosen. The top rail protects the upper edge of the glass and serves as a practical handrail for guests. It also provides a visual thread that ties together the 70 meters of railing.
There are three different installation methods to choose from for the Vista postless railing:
- Fixpoints: Round stainless steel mounting points that secure the glass to the outside of the backing.
- Floor brackets: Small aluminum brackets that hold the glass either on the outside of or on top of the surface.
- Aluminum rail: A continuous rail that runs the entire length of the floor (as used on the Riviera).
The choice of an aluminum rail creates an extremely stable and linear look that is well-suited for large areas. The rail can either be mounted on top of the floor or recessed to become completely invisible, offering great flexibility when designing railings for more sophisticated architectural projects.
Safety Rules and Handrail Height
As with all our projects, we take applicable building codes into account. In a spa facility where there may be differences in floor levels, it’s important to adhere to the prescribed height for handrails. To meet safety requirements in public spaces, a height of 1,100 mm is often recommended. The post-free design of the Vista series allows you to achieve these heights without the handrail feeling heavy or confining.
